Not a single match?

I have quite a number of project members who don't have any matches at 12 markers, including a number of R1b1a2 men. Most of the men in my projects who don't have matches live in the British Isles. It seems to be quite rare for Americans not to have matches unless they belong to a population group that is under-represented in the database (eg, India).

I do not have a single match or close match for my Y-DNA at any marker level. I am J2-M319 (J2a4d) with the CMH 8/12 marker. My user ID is VE8TQ and the closest match from Y-search is User ID 9E9FT (Italy) with a genetic distance of 33 out of 68 markers. Others with similar haplogroup have been found on the island of Crete (see here), but I do not know if any of these individuals are on Y-search or the FTDNA database.

I cannot tell you much about my paternal line as I am adopted (Birth-Father was Mexican citizen), but the distant matches on family finder all appear to be from my birth-mother's side. The only conclusion I can draw so far is that my paternal DNA is either rare or under-represented in the database. I had been told in the past Jewish ancestry was unlikely as I have no close relatives, and most people of Jewish ancestry have close relatives so it is probably genetic convergence from a similar population group.

FTDNA comments about Middle-Eastern ancestory:

• "The closest match (not exact) in our Middle Eastern database is to a single Druze male."

• "Closest results we have for you in our unpublished database is a group of 7 Jews, but they are not exact matches and the samples are only run to the Y12 level"

I have no matches. Only have 12 markers results so far. Father's paternal line etc came from Ireland. Exported to Y-search, some near matches (?) of 10 or 11.

Brother is R1b1a2 -- we'll just hope more people from Europe test so we find out great grandfather and back, but in the meantime try to find a paper trail.

My brother has only 1 match at the 25 and same one at 37 otherwise none. He was disappointed. I told him he was "one of a kind"

That side came to USA in 1885 from Germany.

Putting his first panel into Ysearch returned just one hit: a 9/12 match with ID N3YB3 (Mallard) who tested with Genebase. The 3 markers not matched are DYS385a&b and DYS392. I don't know if Genebase tests for those markers.

I have a rare DYS385b = 21, which limits my 12 marker matches to just one against the entire base. If it were either 15 or 18, I'd have hundreds of matches; in fact, if it were 15, I'd be a perfect match to the 12 marker CMH. But there are a few guys who share a motif with me and we've been clustered together in the J Project. Conversely, one of my cousins, a proxy for my maternal grandfather, has 174 12 marker matches, but I haven't learned much on his origins beyond the major subclade he belongs to.

I have about 6 men in 3 of the projects I admin, who are all R1b (M269 at least), they have no matches at all, at any level, with any surname.
I have 2 relatives with only an 11/12 match, they are R1b M222 and I1 L338.

They are all from the UK/Ireland and compared against the entire FTDNA database.

I am a Group Administrator and one of my members does not have a single match. Not even a Y-DNA12 match.
Am I correct in saying that there's only an extremely low probability of this happening? Did something go wrong with the testing? What does it mean?
I'm no expert in this field but it strikes me as very strange that someone does not get a single match.

This is also checking for everyone in the FTDNA database?

But it can happen with common haplogroups also. I am an L21 with no matches.

It isn't common but I have more than one person in my projects who has no exact or near matches. This usually happens in the less common Haplogroups.
