  • Gedcom upload

I have tried several times, with 2 different browsers to upload a gedcom for my son to Ysearch. It generates an ASP error. I've written to "Help" several times, but it is still not resolved.

    This error text:
    Server object error 'ASP 0177 : 800401f3' Server.CreateObject Failed /gedcom_upload_start.asp, line 117 800401f3

Is anyone else having a problem?

    MJ,

I'd try through your Y DNA results page on your FTDNA page (that's how mine worked). Then the next time I went to Y Search the GEDCOM was there.

I'm unfamiliar with trying thru Y search only.
    cheers
    Brad

        Ysearch GEDCOM upload is broken

It's "official" - it's not currently possible to upload GEDCOMs to Ysearch. I've just received the following response, from Ashley, to an e-mail I sent to Ysearch regarding the GEDCOM problem:
Hello,Thank you for your email. There is currently a problem with the GEDCOM upload program for Y-Search, so you will not be able to upload the file at this time. We apologize for the inconvenience as we work to resolve this issue.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or need additional assistance. Have a great day.

Hope this helps others before they spend too much time trying to upload their GEDCOMs.

          Finally!

At least they are finally admitting there is a problem!

It's June, and the problem still persists. I tried uploading my GEDCOM file several times today.

              gedcom

Yes, I have tried to upload my gedcom via ysearch also to no avail.

I tried the suggestion above about doing it thru my results.

But it still doesn't show on ysearch.

And what shows now on family tree is very confusing, just some of the names appear, actually only the two oldest in my male line

                gedcom

Actually now that I check it again the only two names that appear are my great great grandfather (as no.1) and his father

Where do you mean "Y DNA results page" The only place I can find to upload a gedcom is in the "tools gedcom" area and there you must make a choice between paternal of maternal gedcom. I uploaded my gedcom to the paternal area but that turned out to be an abomination and only visible to me and my group administrator.

Glad I thought to look here... I was trying, for the first time, to upload my GEDCOM to ysearch this morning, and got the exact same error. I guess I won't waste more time trying to troubleshoot that one. Would be nice if they'd just delete the feature for now until they get it fixed.

                      Same response...

No one can upload their GEDCOM files to Mitosearch either: we're receiving the same generic response:

To Mitosearchusernet.com (contact us): "Here is the error message I get when I try to upload: aspSmartUpload.File error '80040460'Unable to save file (Error 1120) /gedcom_upload_start.asp, line 41"

Response from FTDNAhelpdesk: "I apologize for the inconvenience. There is currently and issue with the upload process of GEDCOM files for ySearch.org and mitoSearch.org. This error will be corrected as soon as possible."

Now that I see that the GEDCOM upload issues haven't been resolved in over a year's time, I'm no longer banking using these databases in the future. It sort of defeats the purpose of testing, doesn't it, if you can't check against potential matches' GEDCOM files (trees).

I agree that this is a real pain and is an issue that I feel should be corrected but all is not bad.

The GEDCOM upload does work on the 'myFTDNA" website so you can see it when looking at your Y-DNA matches. Far too many people don't use this function.

Y-Search matches are questionable at best since non-FTDNA customers have to manually enter their data which leads to many errors.

I just tried to upload our gedcom to Y-search for about half an hour, to no good end. Then I read this topic; oh, well!

Here at FTDNA I uploaded the gedcom for both my brother and me ok, it appears. But I can't see his listed on my matches page, nor see mine listed on his matches page.

On the gedcom upload instructions page, I can see the trees just fine by clicking on their links; but I wonder if anyone else can.

                            FTDNA gedcom

I may be way off in left field here, but I wouldn't mind a bit if FTDNA produced it's own "basic" "simple" "bare bones" gedcom program that would allow us to download our genealogy to FTDNA.

They are really helpful, IMO; I found through a FF match's tree an old ancestral relation that I couldn't have guessed from public records. We were only third or fourth cousins, the match; but her tree was helpful.
