  • Common Surname - Downstream Haplogroup designation

    Hi,
I am following one surname in a geographic region. Having tested several branches, I find EM-35, NM-178, RM458, R-Z283, R-YP380(color indicating predicted vs. further testing).
EM-35 was a non-paternal using the surname.R-Z283 was tested among siblings and 1st Cousins. R-YP380 is one of these testers who I did further testing on. So, I strongly thinkg the R-Z283's will also be R-YP380. The NM-178 appears to be a different haplogroup with the same surname.

As I read the R chart, RM458 is downstream on the R haplogroup. My RM458 does NOT match at the Y-37 at all with my R-Z's and R-YP380. Can I conclude they are also not the same haplogroup, and therefore not related?

The person I have tested is questioning this based on surname alone.

    Thanks.
