  • Ysearch "Not found HTTP Error 404. The requested resource is not found."

Is it decided too shut down ysearch for good, since this domain name is not in use anymore - or does it come back in a different form?

When I go to http://www.ysearch.org/ I still get the following message

    Quote...........
    Welcome

Due to a recent increase in abusive data mining by automated scripts, we have experienced several outages to the website.

As such, the website will be down for an extended period of indeterminate duration.

    Thank You,
    Site Management

I have not yet written to Mr. Greenspan about this issue, though I am tempted to, and I am sure others have. But I feel the loss of Ysearch keenly. I used it heavily for research and for recruiting prospective members into my projects. Losing it is like losing my right arm.

        Stevo,
        See my posts from yesterday.
Someone data mined Y-Search and then trashed it.
I also have a perfect match that I can't verify. This means a no-match in my book.
I don't know what to do. I'm not leaving FTDNA.

Ysearch is/was FTDNA's Cinderella. It was given no maintenance and no love.

Using Y search was a bit of a pain, having to enter those verification codes, but it was\is a good research tool, I hope if comes back on line.

Anyway, the domain is in use again, but they still did not fix the datamining problem.

It seems like their best bet might be to incorporate it into the main FTDNA site and let people create free accounts to upload their Y and HVR1 & 2 mtDNA results. This would give FTDNA an avenue to sell tests to people using the free service and would enhance the value of the FTDNA Y and mtDNA databases by including additional data. I'd want that data flagged in some way though since the quality would probably be lower.
