    Hello
If I have a matching 32 from 37 marker with another person
    Share the same last name
How many generations before we had a common ancestor?

Maybe I know how old my family name......
I once read a book written my last name began around~ 1200 AD

    Thank you

32/37 is a very long way back. The McDonald TMRCA calculator gives only a 50% chance at 25 generations -- call it 650 years -- and 90% within 41 generations. It could well be from the early days of your surname, but there's an average chance that the common surname is more coincidence than anything else.

There's also a very small chance that they could be related much more recently, that's the nature of random mutations, but the odds are that it's a distant match.

      :-)

      Thank you
This is rare surname and Country of origin fit.
I think our grandfather 1000 years ago was the same one.

32/37 using 0.27% average mutation rate would statistically most likely to be 25 to 30 generations ago
