This was an upgrade from Big Y-500. I had contacted Customer Support before ordering the upgrade to Big Y-700, because I was not sure there was a sufficient sample left to do the test. I got a reply from a Big Y specialist, who told me there were two vials from 2013that were unused and in storage (extra vials I had ordered at that time, attempting to have enough for future testing), PLUS his two original vials from 2012 (transferred from National Geographic, GENO 2.0), one of which seemed to look unused! In addition to using the original vials for the Geno 2.0 test, his tests at FTDNA after that were:
    • 2013 - Y-DNA 67
    • 2013 - mtDNA Full Sequence
    • 2013 - one SNP test
    • 2014 - upgrade to Y-DNA 111
    • 2015 - SNP pack
    • 2017 - Big Y 2.0
There was an "upgrade" to Big Y-500 in mid-2018, which was apparently done for free at the time (adding the STR markers from 112-550, which were already tested in the earlier Big Y test).

The Big Y specialist did say that they couldn't guarantee they would be able to produce results for the Big Y-700 test, because they wouldn't know the quality of any of the samples until they tested them, but there was plenty of quantity to use. I was amazed that it seemed that all the above tests had apparently been done using the sample from one vial. I had expected that there might only be one of the extra vials, maybe both, left in storage that might be usable. These vials are from an elderly male in his mid-80s, who died in 2014. He had also given a DNA saliva sample for 23andMe late in 2012, the results of which were transferred to FTDNA for Family Finder in early 2013.

KATM, what did you upgrade from? How many tests have you had done on the sample?

Contacted them several times. Supposedly it's in manual review and analysis before the results are posted. Just emailed them again to see how long it has been in manual review.

Usually you do that afterwards, up to 30 days.

Anyone with Batch 1031 come in recently. Been waiting two months now with not a word from FT if there is a problem with the sample. Already tested to Y111 and no problem with that sample. Results came in three weeks. Some have said that samples may have to be rerun. Then why can't FT communicate that to us??? Some from the same batch have received their results. I really want to know if there is a problem with my sample not just left hanging for several months then to be told I need to submit a new sample.

Y700 Batch 1031 batch 12/01/2019 out 7 weeks now. I'm beginning to become very discouraged as I've seen others in the same batch and even later batches with results which have come in. No, and those were not kits which had already tested at Y500. My cousin had tested Family Finder and Y37 in the same batch and the results came in quickly (like 30 days) and then Y111 and came in at 21 days so there doesn't seem to have been any problem with his samples. Also very few tests were done on his sample so doesn't seem like there should be any problem. Also, no notice from FT that there has been a problem and no notice that a new sample is needed. I certainly hope not because the testee is not available for another sample. Very discouraged because I was very hesitant to have my cousin's kit tested at Y700 because I was afraid there would be a problem with the sample which would mean I'm out a lot of money.

That's probably the date your y111 results came in. They do that for some reason but it will get updated when the Big Y comes in.

While on the Order History page, you will not see a date for "Completed" until the test is actually completed. It is confusing, but that's how FTDNA does it. Pretend each word in the "Order Status" column has a colon after it (Batched: or Completed: ), so if a line is blank for a date, then you know it hasn't completed that stage yet. If you've taken any other tests, this is more obvious, because the already-completed tests will show "Completed" with a completion date.

To see when the test results are expected, use the "Check the status of pending tests" link at the top of the Order History page. This will take you to the "Awaiting Lab Results" page, which shows the expected completion date range.

Sometimes the range will be updated, depending on the circumstances (large amount of tests to process after a sale, causing delays; or retesting the sample if first test does not give results, etc.). You may want to check the status periodically to see if anything has changed. Occasionally there is not enough DNA sample left to use for a test, at which time FTDNA should send out another test kit with same kit number. So, always make sure your contact information is current (email, address, phone). If your Big Y 700 was in batch 952, and the expected date has been updated several times, I would contact FTDNA to see if a new sample is needed. When was your kit batched?

Just before that link to the Awaiting Lab Results page, the text at the top of the Order History page says:
You have an open order. The Awaiting Lab Results page allows you to follow the progress of your order.
Once your test results are complete and you get a date, the above text and link do not appear on the Order History page.

But it seems that batch number is not the main criteria.
