  • New kid in the block. On 4/20, it said 6/15/2020 - 6/29/2020. The following day, it changed to:
    Big Y-700 Y700 1083 06/29/2020 - 07/13/2020
I can read the horror stories... (get used to August, perhaps)

Get used to a year from now. At least it is your sample. I'm dealing with a cousin's sample (I'm paying) and it's been almost six months......

I'm furious with how a Y700 test I administer for a cousin is being handled. The batch number is 1031 batched December 1, 2019. I was not advised until almost three months had expired the end of February that it had failed quality control. As expensive as these tests are there is no reason that we could not be kept informed instead of waiting until both samples have been tested They sent out another kit to me which I in turn mail to my cousin and then he mails back to FTDNA. That process alone took almost three weeks because when they told me the sample had failed and a new kit would have to be mailed they didn't mail the kit. I had to call and remind them. Then they received the second kit on March 13th. The testing process started all over again. Every two weeks the due date keeps changing. It's now been eight weeks since the second testing began. I call today and they tell me my cousins sample failed quality control on April 14 but they are still trying and didn't start retesting until May 6.......I suppose that is on his second vile but the clueless customer service rep didn't know what that meant. Now, I have to wait until the middle of June to find out if this sample fails. This is inexcusable.

Eh, the FTDNA lab most certainly has to take precautions with the current global situation. Remember that estimated completion dates aren't set in stone, they can be completed earlier or later (unfortunately).

            • I have 47 Big Y matches in my Y111, should that infer a quicker upgrade? I am batch 1085, expected completion is sometime in July.

              • Apparently batch 1084 was released a few days ago. Any ideas as to when I should receive my results? What times and days do FTDNA release results?

                • It is likely that an upgrade from Big Y-500 to Big Y-700 received their Y-111 STRs results, but not the full Big Y-700 results. In one of my projects, I saw that situation for batch 1085, I believe.

Tests in the same batch begin their journey together but don't necessarily all finish at the same time.

"Individual tests may take a greater or a lesser amount of time to complete than other tests even when it is the same test type in the same batch. You should check your myFTDNA account for an estimated time to completion date after we have batched your test."

                        Dear X.,
We are contacting you regarding the delayed Big Y-700 results on xxxxxx. We want to offer our sincere apologies for the delay you are experiencing. Unfortunately, there has been a recent quality control failure during the testing process on xxxxxx. The lab is working to reprocess your test at the highest priority, however, this will cause further delays. There was an additional sample in storage that has been pulled to continue processing your test. If this sample fails as well, and the lab determines a new sample is required, then we will contact you again and let you know a new collection kit is on its way to you. Unfortunately, this means that your test results will not be available by previously promised deadlines in emails sent out earlier this month. If this round of testing passes the quality control process, we hope to have your results available to you by the end of October.
                        Best Regards,

end of october is his 90th birthday. i hope he lives to see the results. if not, and thus also not around anymore to supply further samples, does anyone know if we would be eligible for a refund? edit: I just wrote and asked them that.
Hey did you get the refund or not? Has anyone asked for a refund? If so, what did they say?

The FTDNA Refund Policy is shown in the Learning Center, after searching for "refund."

                            • hussainr565, I don't know your situation. Has FTDNA contacted you for a new sample? Big Y-700 requires a very good sample, preferably a new sample if you've done other tests, or your sample is insufficient. Sometimes they have to start the testing process over, if the first try does not work.

Submit a Customer Support request, select "Big Y and SNP Questions," and explain your issue. Ask for a Big Y specialist to check on your pending results. If your current sample is not producing results, they may end up sending you a replacement kit (no charge), in order to have a fresh sample. If that happens, make sure you follow the directions and swab very well for the time indicated.

Unfortunately, if you do need to send in a new sample, your wait for Big Y-700 results will start over again.
