BAM files are back

I just checked my Download Results button on my Big Y results page and the option to request a BAM file is back. I went to the Contact Us form and there is no an option to choose BAM File Request.

I checked an account that I don't think I ever requested a BAM file for and I received a link. So maybe we don't have to request them anymore.

I received my big-Y results a month ago. I don't see a BAM file link

On the BigY results page, there is a link below "Refer Friends & Family," labeled as "Download Raw Data."
I clicked on that and got the pop-up screen (attached). I then clicked on the button "Download BAM." Of course, I do not see any such file being downloaded, so who knows - maybe it goes to FTDNA and notifies them of the request.

It would be nice if they made some announcement and explained it!

Thanks for the screenshot. Maybe it is a new version of requesting the BAM file and it means it takes a few days for the button to change. In my kit, the Download BAM file shows a file size next to it plus a Share BAM button. However I had requested my BAM file before all this changed.

The link to the Contact Page now shows a choice in category for "Big Y BAM Request," which dreimiller posted in the opening of this thread was not there earlier today.

I've just submitted a request.

Response to BAM File Request

I submitted a request this morning to receive a link to my BAM file and just received the following reply from FTDNA (emphasis added):

"As we promised in late January, were now able to begin to make Big Y BAM files available again. We have requested the lab to compile the .BAM file you wrote an email about.
Those testers who had BAM files prior to the interruption will have immediate access to them. Page functionality has been restored, along with the ability to download the zipped file or to get a randomly generated share link. Each time you click the button to get a link, a new one is generated. As before, those links expire in 14 days.
We will work through the waiting list of requests in the order in which they were received.
Testers who requested BAM files but have not yet received them should receive notification that their file is available within the next 3-4 weeks.
Those who have ordered Big Y in the interim can request their file when their results are complete."

So I guess this means we get to wait another 3-4 weeks for our BAM files.

Since I am contemplating doing Big Y, it is hard for me to monitor whether BAM files really are back.

They are back, there is just a backlog of requests that they will get through. In fact, I can download my BAM file right now, so yes they are back. By the time you get your results, that backlog should be gone. When I ordered one last October, it took about 3 weeks to get results. No idea if it will take longer for you, but that will depend on how many kits people have been sending into FTDNA that were ordered during the holiday sales.

I ordered the Big-Y in December, during the holiday sale when I scored a big coupon. The anticipated date for my results was mid-February, but was extended for two weeks twice (total of four weeks). I received my results in mid-March, only to find that BAM files were not available. Thanks to this forum, I learned you could request a link to your BAM file on March 25 and submitted a request immediately. I received the link to my BAM file yesterday. So the holiday backup for processing the Big-Y is probably over, and by the time you receive your results, the BAM file backup will likely be over.

Same situation here. I requested mine on the 24th and received their reply on the 25th stating:

"We will work through the waiting list of requests in the order in which they were received.

You will not receive any notification that your BAM file is available. On a daily basis, you need to check your Big-Y results page, hit the "Download Raw Data" button to see if the "Download BAM" and "Share BAM" links are available.

Yeah, I'm still getting the "Please fill out a Contact Us Form request and choose the Big Y BAM Request category to activate your BAM file download" message upon clicking the Download BAM button.

Thanks for letting me know about the lack of notification, I'll start checking the page more frequently.

Randy (or anyone else) - any update on your BAM file? Mine's still in limbo. My project admin mentioned to me yesterday that recent BAM file requests are getting a 5-7 week estimate...
