  • Haplogroup B2

Can someone please explain to me in simple terms what is the difference between Haplgroup B2, on the Phylogeny Tree of complete mtDNA there are a few branches for B2, what is the difference,I know there are many B2 people on Family Tree DNA but I only have 2 matches under my Coding section. Image with the Phylogeny tree can be viewed from the link provided, it is figure 3, I fall under 16311 on the B2 branch,

I think you should use your RSRS results and try to locate yourself in the current version of the tree
    http://www.phylotree.org/tree/subtree_R.htm
    from
    http://www.phylotree.org/

P.S. Number of matches is not really relevant to your position in the tree. Why would it be? Unless you belong to a branch that is known to be a populous one.

I fall under T16311C is this tree the same as figure 3 in this PDF document? Then I would fall under B2- 16311- 195

is from 2008. mtDNA tree was revised since then, the links I posted point to the current tree.

Those numbers are just some sample IDs at GenBank.

That's the wrong tree for mtDNA B. You need to use the tree that dna posted. It's the R* tree at http://www.phylotree.org/tree/subtree_R.htm

Denise, you might also be interested in joining the American Indian DNA Project and emailing the admin there. I am sure she would be happy to have you as a participant. The project is at https://www.familytreedna.com/public/AmericanIndian/

Somewhere, way down deep in my 51 pages of FF matches, I saw a match who has a maternal B2. He says it's from the Winnebago tribe of Wisconsin.

                            Haplogroup B2

I am Peruvian, and I got this weird haplogroup in Peru B2. The only possibility is that one ancestor brought a Native American to Peru while coming from Europe or something like that.

The more likely scenario is that your straight maternal line traces back to a Native American tribe in Peru a number of generations ago.
