I assume that your MitoSearch username is 357MA. As you say, you have a couple near-matches that have an extra 152C mutation, a near-match that has an extra 16129A mutation, and a lot of near-matches that are missing your 16390A mutation.

When individuals of Polish or Lithuanian maternal ancestry have matches or near-matches in the British Isles, my first impulse is to suggest that Continental women accompanied or later joined their men in the various invasions of those Isles. You descend from a woman who stayed on the Continent; your near-matches descend from other women who went to the Isles. Evidence to support this hypothesis would come from another Continental (e.g., Polish or Lithuanian) individual who matches you at least as closely (preferably more closely) than the British Isles near-matches.

Determination of your subclade (via the mt-H test) could eventually prove useful, but is rather expensive ($89) for what it does. The mt-H test could at least winnow out the best near-matches from the many individuals who lack your 16390A mutation.

But another strategy is simply to wait and watch for a Continental individual (again, preferably Polish, Lithuanian, Latvian, or Belarusian) who matches you at least as well as the British Isles people.

By the way, feel free to join the Polish Project, which actually embraces the entire old Polish-Lithuanian Republic. To join, log into your FTDNA account, click on the Join icon near the top of the page, scroll down to Dual Geographical Projects and click on P, then click on Polish, then scroll down and click on the Join button. You should then see a message confirming your new membership.

You could also join the mtDNA H Haplogroup Project, which--since it classifies according to a completely different criterion--is fully compatible with membership in the Polish Project.

mtDNA matches

I have had my mtDNA results for about a year. While new HVR1 matches keep being added, I still only match my brother for high resolution (1&2). There is nothing you can do about that except wait for people more closely related to you to be tested!

The countries listed give you an interesting picture of migration patterns. It is interesting information for you and your mother to read and think about, perhaps research how people moved about the continents in early times, resulting in connections in many countries for all of us, although our common ancestor lived many years ago.

I Idon't Know A Lot About These Mutations,but Since You Just Got Your Results Back ,just Keeping Asking Questions And Looking For Answers And You'll Find Them After You've Been Here Awhile; That's How I Did. Also Try Asking The People Who Run Familytree.when I First Got My Results I Wrote Them About Eight Times And They Always Responded To Me Kindly.but For Deep Details You'll Have To Look And Look And Ask On This Forum.someone Who Knows'll Tell You.
