  • New group, multinational, need help.

    Hello,
I'm starting a new Project for the surname "Sanoja", and am still waiting for FTDNA to authorize the project.
In the meantime, I was wondering whether someone has managed a multinational project. Can a person living in, say, South America, order a test kit, or should the administrator carry them?
    Please help!

I ran several projects, with members from the US, Canada, the UK, Ireland, Denmark, Israel, Australia and the Middle East.
I live in Aus and have had no problem ordering and/or paying for kits for my family in Canada, UK and Aus.
I havnt heard of any of the project members having problems.

Rivergirl, thank you for the reply. I was notified this morning by FTDNA that my project has been authorized and I logged in the administrator's page for the first time today. When you had your members order their kits, were they mailed directly to them, or did you take them with you and distributed among your members?
One issue that may be problematic for my project is that a good chunk of the family is located in Venezuela, which has an exchange control system. This means you cannot buy dollars freely but have to use a quota given by the government. I may have to take the kits with me (and the issue then would be who would pay for them).
Also, what were the first steps you took when you started your family projects?

I paid for the kits myself and had them shipped to the relatives.
You can do this at FTDNA as the shipping address can be different to the billing address.

In all the project I admin, the project was already going, but had no Admin,, so I volunteered.

I post project updates on the surname forums at Rootsweb/Ancestry and Genforum, to get the word out about the projects. (You have to be careful not to meniton prices or companies to avoid "advertsing" rules. )

I forgot to mention, that you can start a General Fund for the Project.
This way other interested family members can donate money to the fund for testing the males in the family.
You should see a link in your Admin pages to the General Fund.

I dont kniow what the currency situation is in Venezuea, maybe someone with more information on that could give some advice.

Thanks for the advice. To tell you the truth, I've been getting more and more disappointed as time passes. I've created a Facebook page, a blog, and been contacting people through every media I have at my disposal. Yet, I've got only a few likes on Facebook, virtually no comments and no interest in the study. I thought people would jump as soon as they knew of the project. This is frustrating!!!!!!!
But thanks for the advice anyway.
