    Compare mtDNA results from 23andMe?

    A Long woman who has mtDNA test results from 23andMe has asked me if I can check for mtDNA matches with the men and women in my FTDNA Long Surname DNA Project. Is there a way? Bill Long www.longdna.com

    I do not think so, not even at Gedmatch.com.

      Only as far as matching the sub-clade. 23andMe doesn't even test the entire HVR1 or HVR2 sequence. In my dad's raw data, there are values for the following number of base pairs (tested/total):

      HVR1 = 322/569
      HVR2 = 200/574
      CR = 2216/15426

      The numbers do change from time to time though, as consistent no-calls and unreliable loci are identified.
