  • Adding images to project pages

    Hi all,

Is there an easy way of adding graphic images to project webpages? Does FT have a way for us to upload images? A picture paints a thousand words and all that.

For example, the new maps are great but I would like to display map images showing the migration routes of a particular member or group of members. Perhaps showing their 'brickwall' and how they might go about demolishing it.

    Hi George,

Images can't be uploaded to the FTDNA web server for projects, but you can link to images on other websites.

What I did for a couple of my projects was upload the images to my own web server, then use HTML code (IMG tags) to display them on the FTDNA project pages.

If you don't have your own web space somewhere, then you might be able to use one of the free image storing websites and link from there. I don't use those sites myself, so I'm not familiar with their rules or if there are any technical issues that would prevent this from working.

      Adding images to project pages

      Hi Elise,

      thanks for replying.

Thats a real shame. Would be a big help in making project pages more informative and intuitive.

Just noticed I can upload images to this server. Wonder if its the same server ?

        Image uploaded OK

        Hi,

This trick seems to work. Next step is to see if I can get the image to appear on the webpages.

              Adding images to Project Webpages

              Hi Admins,

If you upload a image using this forum then copy the URL you can use the image in your project webpage. BUT anyone viewing it needs to be logged in to the forum. Sort of spoils things that does.

Anyone know a better way of adding a picture to the project pages.

Uploading an image to a discussion forum for use on another website is a bad idea anyway

As I mentioned before, there are some free image hosting sites... I just don't know their rules about linking from other websites, so you'll have to check that out yourself. One that I'm aware of is http://imageshack.us/. Try a google search for "image hosting" for other options.

Why is it a bad idea? Surely its better to have images stored on FT's own servers. Be that on the forum one or the main server.
