  • Question about DYS389-2

My results show DYS389-1=13 & DYS389-2=17 the first number seems normal but the second one (DYS389-2=17) seems odd. Most people seem to be in the range of 30, give or take a few, at this position. When I go to YHRD.org and try to search, it won't even allow me to enter 17 at DYS389-2. Am I missing something?

DYS389-1 & DYS389-2 are slightly "different" markers. Most companies report them as DYS389i and DYS389ii. What makes them "different" is DYS-389ii actually includes DYS-389i. What they are reporting to as DYS389-1 is in fact DYS389i what they are reporting as DYS389-2 is actually DYS389ii minus DYS389i.

If you add your two values together (DYS389-1 = 13 and DYS389-2 = 17) you will get DYS389ii = 30. This this the number you should put into YHRD.org.

Thanks John. I suspected that might be the case but I wanted to make sure.

        389-2 17

I also have 389-1 as 13 and 389-2 as 17. This is from National Geographic study results I recently received. I also was confused about being so far off from the "norm".
