  • why use genographic?

I'm just wondering what Genographic does that FTDNA does not do. Do they have a use?

I sometimes order Genographic kits for strangers I'm contacting out of the blue with a request for a DNA sample, figuring they might respond more favorably to the reputation of National Geographic than a company they've never heard of. The sample collection kit is rather attractive and informative, and they can view their results in the context of the interactive features on the website. Then I can ask them to transfer their results to FTDNA.

And don't forget the cool DVD on the project!

        I second Ann's comment.

I know of two people who were inspired by, and trusted, the long history of NatGeo and then later went on to more detailed tests elsewhere. I think Ann's 'sales pitch' to start proceedings via Genographic is a great idea if that is the easier course to take.

As for transferring 'backwards' from FTDNA to Genographic, it's easy, affordable, and the right thing to do.
