  • Why the different R in results

Greetings, my haplogroup results from the Genographic Project (R1b1b2) and the what I see on Family tree DNA as my results are (R1b1a2) are different, can any one explain the reason to me.

Haplogroup names can change as new branches on the tree are discovered. FTDNA just updated their Haplotree, and as a result of new branches, R1b1b2 has been renamed to R1b1a2. I assume they'll adjust the haplogroup at Genographic soon as well.

The important thing to know is that you are positive for the SNP M269 -- that part of it will never change. It's the branch name for M269 that can change. This isn't the first time it has changed, and it won't be the last
