  • Haplogroup nomenclature issue - I1b vs I2a

I just got my results from the Genographic Project. They designate my haplogroup as I1b (P37.2). When I transferred my data to FTDNA, I am now designated I2a. Is this just an issue of old vs new nomenclature? I see from Wikipedia that I2a (P37.2) was formerly designated as I1b1.

Please help clarify this for me if possible. Thanks!

Yes, just a nomenclature issue. I'm a bit surprised that the Genographic Project is still using old nomenclature, but yes P37.2 = I2a

I think it's just some inconsistency on the part of the Genographic Project; They show I1b on my certificate and write-up, but if you click on the P37.2 branch on their migration map, it identifies as I2a. Maybe someone from NatGeo monitors this forum and can request that they update their database.

I'm not. I reckon the GP is slipping way behind the times.
