    Russian archaelogy

    Does anyone know what is the current state of Russian archaelogy? Is it still largely politically motivated like it was in the Soviet times?

    I just read about the Soviet archaelogist Mikhai Artamonov who emphasized the enormous influence of the Khazars on the development of the early Rus' and other peoples, but was denounced by Soviet authorities, compelling him to add a conclusion to his work stating essentially that they in fact had no lasting influence. It's sad when political correctness over-rules the search for historical truth:
