I am a bit worried about the recent purchase of Nat Geo by Rupert Murdoch and Fox.

How will this affect the Genographic Project? Does the change in status from Non-Profit to for-profit create the potential for the misuse of our data?

The National Geographic Society's media assets have been associated with Fox since 1997. This deal just gives Fox majority control of the magazine and other publishing and media assets.

The National Geographic Society remains a non-profit entity, and this move is unrelated to the Society's funding of projects like the Genographic Project.
