  • Do Geno 2.0 participants need to send samples for FTDNA tests?

I just transferred Geno 2.0 results for a relative of mine from the Genographic Project to FTDNA. The person in question doesn't have a kit at FTDNA but got a kit number automatically upon transfer.

I'd like to order some more tests for him at FTDNA but sending a second sample is a problem since the person lives in another country and is too old to manage to send a new sample to FTDNA. The question is whether this is needed at all?

If I try ordering an upgrade for myself, the 'Ship to' field on the checkout page says 'No shipping required.'. If I do the same for the person in question, I get the post address in the 'Ship to' field.

FTDNA can find and use the Geno samples.

Not only does the web site erroneously mention a shipping address, it may even charge you a shipping fee. If so, you may have to contact FTDNA to have that refunded.

I risked and ordered Y-DNA37. They charged me for shipping too. We'll wait and see if it works with the old sample.

Can you send me the kit number by private message? The kit shouldn't need new swabs, and you shouldn't be charged a shipping fee. I'll have someone check into this on Monday (tomorrow is a U.S. holiday).

        Thanks,
        Elise

I transferred my old Genographic Project results to FTDNA and then upgraded to FF this past weekend. It appears my remaining sample was located and when I posted a question about whether I need a new kit over on the FB page I was reassured that my old sample was found and a new kit would not be necessary.

However, I was charged for shipping and there has been no update to my account except the assignment of a new kit and a shipping date. Do I need to call in to clarify this or will it just move through the system? The updates to my account aren't very helpful in determining this.

          Thanks

My experience is that you will need to call or write FTDNA asking for a refund of the shipping charge.

Good news - the status on my request changed. It has now been batched. I'll follow up with a call.

Now, if my grandma's samples could just show up as being received ... I will never again send off samples without requiring a signature. I didn't have this trouble with my Geno test.
