  • Geno 2.0 vs. Big Y

Hey, is it worth it to run the Geno 2.0 test now that the Big Y test is out and tests for almost the same things as the Geno 2.0? Is there any benefit to running both tests vs. running just one of them?

The best advice I can give would be to check with your haplogroup project administrator.

If this will be your first test, then order only the Big Y, and join the haplogroup project after receiving results.

By and large, a person should not need to order the Geno 2.0 after taking the Big Y, but there may be some subclades which are not well covered in this new test.

For yDNA, Geno 2.0 should be unnecessary once you've received Big Y results.

Geno 2.0 includes some mtDNA and autosomal DNA testing, but both are inferior to other products (mtFullSequence, Family Finder) and thus cannot be recommended for those purposes.

I have done the FTDNA Y-111 and the Genographic 2.0 test. Will the Big-Y add much more to this?

Also, because I have "built up" my DNA results in FTDNA from importing initial Ancestry Y-DNA testing, then Y-67 extension by FTDNA, then Y-111, then transfer of Genographic 2.0 I am thinking that a complete BigY might be a way of checking that it is all accurate. In that case, should I ask for the test under a different user ID?

        Thanks

No, you do not need to test under a different user ID.

The Big Y will certainly give you a lot more information. The question is whether that additional information is worth the money to you.

Until the end of today (June 21), the jam15p coupon reduces the price of the Big Y by 15%, to $488.75.
