  • Long wait for conversion of FTDNA to Genographic Project

Today is 2/26/2014. I am wondering if anybody else has had this problem.

On 1/27/2014 (1 month ago) I submitted my Y-DNA (STR) results to the Genographic Project via the FTDNA website. They billed me the $15. As a result I got a screen message stating, "TRANSFER COMPLETE. Your STR results were converted to the Genographic Project. Your Genographic Project ID is #_____. Results may take up to 1 week to process and may be viewed at https://genographic.nationalgeographic.com".

On 2/7/2014 (19 days ago) I submitted my mtDNA(HVR1) results to the Genographic Project via the FTDNA website. There was no charge for this 2nd submission. As a result I got a screen message stating, "Your HVR1 results were converted to the Genographic Projoject. Your Genographic Project ID is #_____. You'll be able to see your records on the next day".

Since then, and still today, when I go to the Genographic Project website and I enter either of my two Genographic Project IDs I get the message, "There is currently no data for this Genographic Project ID. Either we do not have it on file yet or it was entered incorrectly." I guarantee that the IDs were not entered incorrectly.

I wrote FTDNA and they responded a week later with, "There is currently a pipeline issue and the results are not being pushed through to the Genographic Project end so that they are visible on the customer page. We are working with the Genographic Project to determine where in the process the issue is occurring and rectifying the issue."

Has anybody else had this problem? It does seem very strange to me that they have been doing this for a long time and yet now they are having issues that they cannot resolve in a month's time and probably much longer?

I have worked in the information technology field all my life and I am puzzled by this!!!

What do you get for your $15?

I had my results transferred from Family Tree to the Geno 2.0 Project. It cost $15. There was a very long wait of about two months. I finally got my results back. But, all I received was results on my mtDNA line. I received nothing back on my Y-DNA line or my percentages of ethnic make-up. I did not receive anything concerning if I have any Neanderthal DNA or not. I did get the impression that for $199 I could upgrade to get this information. I had taken the Y-DNA, mtDNA, and Family Finder at Family Tree. I was under the impression I would get more information than what I did. Now, I am under the impression that this was just to get me interested in the Geno 2.0 Project, in order to see if I might want to upgrade with the Genographic Project. I guess I was just under the wrong impression of what was being offered for $15.

      Hi,

What you get for the $15 US FTDNA > NG transfer is what is now called the Geno 1.0 product. Of course, you also get the warm fuzzy of donating to their research efforts. If you have questions, please contact customer service, [email protected].

RSaewolf, What you originally interpreted is correct. FTDNA has changed their offering after you and I accepted their previous offering. But the fact is that you still have the right to the original offering of the Genographic 2.0 transfer of the mtDNA/Y-DNA results for the $15 after having paid the bigger bucks (in your case I think you said it was $199?) for the other tests. I had the Complete Genome done. As of this date (3/13/2014) I am still trying to get them to live up to their part of the agreement. They have claimed to be having technical problems, but I have been at this with them for weeks.
