  • Geno 2 result questions.

    Hello,
So I received my Geno 2 results and of course have questions.
The information displayed on the page, "Who I Am" says I'm,
56% Mediterranean, 21% Northern European, 20% Southwest Asian, 2% Northeast Asian, 1.7% Neanderthal and 1.1% Denisovan.
My first reference population is Northern Caucasian.
My second reference population is Sardinian.

My known, documented ancestry to about 1780's is Jewish Ashkenazi
and my ancestors come from Galicia, in present day Ukraine.
How does my Geno 2 admixture reconcile with my known ancestry?
I recognize the Northern European as where my ancestors eventually settles 1000's of years ago as most recent, and the Asian would come from earlier, more ancient ancestor, but how does Mediterranean fit in being that I'm 56%?
Mediterranean doesn't appear on my map at all.

What do the 1st and 2nd reference population refer to?
Just a culture to compare my results to or is it implying, my ancestors are more specifically "Northern Caucasian and Sardinian?

I would appreciate any opinions to help me understand my results,
    Brian

Brain because you are Jewish you will receive the higher Mediterranean score. In this test people with Middle Eastern ancestry will have a higher level of Mediterranean, sort of like how Southern Italians and Sicilians will receive a higher Middle Eastern score here or on Dr. McDonald's test. It has to do with old migration patterns with people from these regions. The other two groups they are listing for you is showing what two reference groups for the test your particular DNA mixture most resembles.

      Thanks Táltos,
      That makes sense.
      Can you tell me if
"56% Mediterranean, 21% Northern European, 20% Southwest Asian, 2% Northeast Asian"
can be refined to specific "cultures" or people that make up the percentages?
I previously tried to google "Dr. McDonald's test", couldn't find it,
should I be thinking of taking this test for further admixture refinement?
Could you tell me of another question of reference populations referred to in Geno 2,
"My first reference population is Northern Caucasian.
My second reference population is Sardinian."
Does this mean I am Northern Caucasian and Sardinian or just there for comparison?
How can I find out the percentages of each?
