  • A Question about Geno 2.0

Since FTDNA does the testing for Geno 2.0, is the reported "arrival" of the kit based on FTDNA's traditional Wednesday lab batch schedule? In other words, do the Geno 2.0 kits go to FTDNA's lab on Wednesdays?

I am asking because my dad mailed in his Geno 2.0 kit last Tuesday, but the web site is still showing the "Your DNA Sample Has Not Yet Been Received" message. His kit should definitely be there by now.

Once it shows received it will also show 20% finished and expect the results soon, unless they start testing on a new basis that we will know about hopefully on the weekend. They do go directly to FTDNA.

Past problems at the Houston Post Office

There have been issues in the past with the Post Office in Houston holding back on packages sent to FTDNA due to inadequate postage.

I even recall an incident where someone went to their local post office, had their package weighed, and proper postage affixed, but when it got to the Houston post office, the package was re-weighed and they determined at that time not enough postage was added.

Someone from FTDNA periodically goes down to the Post Office to check for packages being held, and apparently pay for the extra postage cost. However, this has been a reason for significant (weeks to a month or so) delay in FTDNA receiving packages in the past.

I cannot say this is the problem in these specific cases, but it does sound like this old issue may be re-surfacing.

Given the fact FTDNA is well aware of this issue, you would think they would make all kits postage-paid, and increase the price of the kit to offset this expense. To me, the ill-will caused by these occasional snafus are well worth the expense.

I know that this is not the case for me as it was sent from my local Post Office with Priority Mail with tracking. It clearly shows that it was delivered.

I used certified USPS Priority Mail (signature required) and the kit was batched 2 weeks later.

Therefore, I know for a fact that it sat in the FTDNA mailroom collecting dust rather than the post office.

Sigh. All that doesn't sound good.

I just checked a few minutes ago, and the Geno 2.0 web site still says, "Your DNA Sample Has Not Yet Been Received". Maybe tomorrow?

Of course, the little blurb-in-the-box there also says, "It may take a few weeks before they are received and entered into our system at the Genographic Project lab."

                Groan!

                  Genographic 2.0 Transfer
                  9/10/2013 Completed 529
                  9/10/2013 Ordered 529
                  8/14/2013 Batched 529

Actually I had my results on Sept. 08th/2013.

Are you speaking of the original test results or just the transfer over to FTDNA?

Checked my Geno 2.0 test and today went from 0% to 40%. No email yet from them stating received.

Batched means start of the test. Transfer takes only seconds.

Fine, except the post of yours that prompted my question was headed by "Genographic 2.0 Transfer". That is what confused me.

Anyway, I just checked on my dad's Geno 2.0 kit a few minutes ago. Now the Geno 2.0 site says his sample has been received and the test is 20% complete!

That was a very welcome surprise.

You will see the results in 3 to 4 weeks unless they do it under new program with added SNPs, which actually be better. Though not definite but I think they be adding many more SNPs because of the competition from full genome and coromo2.
