I mailed my brother's and my kit from the San Francisco Bay area on 27 Nov. Same day, same time. My kit has arrived and is started being processed. My brother's has not arrived. I don't know how long to wait before declaring this a lost kit. Will Nat Geo replace it?

I hope they are not too busy to press a button when a kit is received, because if they cannot manage that how can they manage to process the kits with a guarantee that no kits are mixed up or lost ?

possible issue with postage
There have been some kits which have been held up at the Houston Post Office due to not enough postage.
I personally believe the National Geographic Society (NGS) erred in not charging a bit more for the test and sending folks a self-addressed stamped envelopes. The instructions stated the package needed to be mailed as a package, rather than an envelope (and the postage needed to be at least $1.95). However, not everyone read this part of the directions, and even their local post office sometimes did not affix enough postage.
Given the fact the Houston post office receives all of the mailings for FTDNA as well as these NGS tests, they tend to be quite picky and refuse to deliver any packages that don't have the proper postage. FTDNA does periodically go to the post office (about every month or so) to collect (and pay for) these packages, but as a business, they lose $$$ doing this service.

That way they would be able to more accurately estimate when a kit should be presumed lost on its way back - and during the time between the placement of the order and the customers receipt of the kit, they could use a more meaningful message than the current 'Kit Not Returned'.

Kits at Post Office
I mailed two kits back and used USPS Delivery Confirmation. The post office says they attempted delivery on Dec. 6th at 7:30PM. So now it sits at the post office waiting to be scheduled by FTDNA to be redelivered. It says they have 15 days or the kits will be mailed back to me. Now how can this be right? Wouldn't they attempt to deliver the mail during normal business hours for one thing? Won't they attempt more than one delivery? So now what do I do just wait? Craziness.

The situation used to be much worse. The Houston post office used to mark the package as delivered when it wasn't! Now they simply claim to have attempted delivery when they didn't.

Kit lost for the 2nd time?
My kit has been lost for some reason. After the first 3 weeks I sent an email to Geno to ask if they have received my kit and they asked me to wait a bit more.
Then I sent an other email the week after, they didn't answer. I called them, they advised that they have nothing (5th week), then I asked them to replace the kit (6th week).
I got my new kit, but I was not able to log in as my previous details were already in use... I asked them to cancel my 1st kit, so then I would be able to use my details, they have done it.
So now, my kit has been sent Wednesday last week from Ireland, still not registered as received... I don't know what's the story of that...

I advise you to hang on a bit longer. My kit took 3 weeks to be received and I mailed it from Maryland, USA. FTDNA over the past week received at least 11 bags full of kits in one day from the post office with postmarks from November. My kit was finally received on the Dec.19th. They said the post office holds the mail and doesn't deliver them in a timely fashion. I wouldn't be surprised if you first kit is received and was not lost.

Lost kit
It has been over 3 weeks, so I e-mailed them the other day. I got a reply within 24 hours, saying if I wanted a new kit they would send one. So I said yes. This is to replace my brother's kit which seemingly has never arrived. Mine mailed the same day is now at 40% completed.
I put tracking on this one when I mail it.
I was wondering about the account. I'll have to delete it and start over I guess.
