Geno 2.0 shipping

Hi.
I ordered the Geno 2.0 test back on July 25th (the first day that it was offered). My credit card was charged Saturday Oct. 6th, and I just checked, on order tracking from the National Geographic store, and it shows that it shipped today. I got one day shipping, thus it is shipping via UPS, and should be here tommorrow. Great!

Sorry if any of this has already been mentioned—I didn't read every post here.

NatGeo is starting to ship out kits today, at least in the U.S. I got this information from a customer service rep over the phone today.

Concerning which SNPs will be on the chip, I got this response from NatGeo:

Thank you for contacting the Genographic Project. Unfortunately, we do not have a list of the SNPs that will be tested, although it is a safe bet that every SNP test available through FTDNA, along with many other known SNPs, will be tested with Geno 2.0. Simply put, the SNP testing done with Geno 2.0 is quite groundbreaking, and we will not know what it will yield until the first set of results come back.

This sounds to me like they aren't planning on announcing anything and that we'll just find out when the first results are reported. Who knows?

Those who qualified for free Geno 2.0 kits will not have to send in a DNA sample.

Their DNA has already been tested on the new chip as part of the vetting process. i.e. the results are already known to NatGeo.

According to Alex at customer service who I spoke to today, an email will be sent with a Geno 2.0 login code in lieu of an actual kit.

The results will be immediately available to participants (hopefully) when Geno 2.0 results come online on October 30th.

I can confirm status now shows as shipped with a ups tracking number, which was included with the free shipping. It will arrive Thursday!

Mmh, it seems order tracking is not working anymore for me. I just get a message: "We're sorry, but we are unable to provide your order status online."

I wonder if this is bad or good news. Or maybe it is just because we are too many people checking our Geno 2.0 orders at the same time ?

It was my male cousin I was refering to as he is a lot younger.You are right I forgot that his MtDNA wouldnt be the same as mine.Bad idea.

You can test a cousin instead of yourself, but you need to keep his results and accounts separate from yours. In other words, you shouldn't upload his Geno2.0 results to your own FTDNA account. Otherwise FTDNA will think his DNA samples are yours, and his samples could end up getting tested when you order new tests for yourself from FTDNA.

Keep in mind his autosomal and mtDNA results will be different from yours, and Geno2.0 tests those too.

UPS transferred shipment to USPS! WTH!?

I was tracking my shipment from Memphis TN. I watched as it got closer to me, and noticed last night where it has arrived in Waterville, ME (30 miles from me) and figured I should receive it today.

Instead, when I just checked the status, they transferred the package to the Waterville Post Office!! Why didn't they simply mail the package right from Memphis. It wouldn't have cost them anything more, and it would have been cheaper for them!

I never received any e-mail about shipping, but I got my kits today. The only reason I knew they were on the way is because the charge showed up on my credit card statement this morning.
