  • DNA match confirms Family History

I am U198. Within the past 3 months I found another of the same surname who was 13 gd on 37 markers but had not yet taken the deep clade. That person took his deep clade. Based upon the predictors that this would be the case I followed his family tree in the US, which was relatively easy, to a known ancestor for him. At the same time I followed the records to a probable ancestor who would hook up with him. Only one pathway was disclosed by the records as possible given where my family has been for 370 years and his have been (different continents). The outcome- MRCA born 1557. Today his deep clade came in- U198. Now he is U198 with a 13 gd on 37 markers and we intersect 12 generations ago with two brothers, one his (and verifiably since the family is well known in the USA) and one my ancestor. I don't think either of us would have gotten where we did without the dna testing.

The GD on this may be out of whack although the conclusion is not. When we first compared the GD was 2 out of 25 markers. All the GD appears on the last panel on a project transcription rather than a y search upload. The 25 markers are the same as another member of the clade who is calculated to have a 76% probability of common ancestor within 12 generations. So I am now checking out the transcription to see if the difference of 7 on 6 of the last 12 markers might be a transcription error. There is no doubt of the family connection or of the only possible generation where that connection could have happened based on the records. More later.

This really makes no sense. I have a 7 distance on 67 markers with someone and the MRCA is likely not even in 1300, and I'm predicting maybe 400AD, especially since I have a paper trail going back to 1600, and our names don't remotely match.

Either you've got some exceedingly rapid mutations or something is off.

I'm curious how Arabic can be used, but we can't use simple accepted umlauts etc. from other languages here?
