  • Shared DNA and Shared Research Breaks Through Brickwall

Up until 2017, my paternal line on the family tree stopped with my 2nd great-grandfather Charles A "Charley" Grubbs ( 1871-1949). Neither myself, nor our other family historians were able to figure out where Charley came from. That was until I got my father to take the AncestryDNA autosomal DNA test. I uploaded his raw DNA to the FamilyTreeDNA site and found a match that he shared 38 cMs with that ended up being one of my 3rd cousins 1x removed. I was able to share research with him, and together we were able to break through this brick wall and extend the family tree back multiple generations, adding many more branches to our family tree! This past month I ordered myself the Y-111 DNA test, hoping the results and matches for this new test will help me break through our next brick wall, and figure out who the father of my paternal 4th great-grandfather, Peter Alexander Grubb ( ABT. 1810- BEF. 1899), was, fingers crossed!
