    Judy,

60/67 match to your brother, now. He and I are part of a continuum of people matching within 5 markers of each other at the 67 level--Schwarcz, Lefkowitz, Herschberg, Avner, Richman, Schweitzer. All Jewish, all from different parts of Europe, and probably diverged around 1000 years ago. Perhaps all descendants of one man's family who left the Rhineland at the time of the First Crusade and spread out to the east. One line of the Avner family believes themselves to be descended from Benjaminite mercenaries, which is a peculiar tradition since, if it were simply invented, it would carry no prestige or benefits; but of course there is no way to verify.

      Jeff/Judy,

Both my grandfathers' lines are in this mix too (Friedman and Eisner). 25 markers are now in for both lines and I'm waiting for the remainder of their upgrades to 37 markers. Brozgol is a GD of 1 from each. Jeff, you're a GD of 1 from my brother (Friedman) and a GD of 2 from my grandfather (Eisner).

I still find it very strange that both my grandfathers' lines matched each other at 12 markers. I fully expected them to diverge at more markers, but they're still only a GD of 1 from each other at 25. Waiting to see what happens at 37.

Will probably upgrade to 67 for both someday, but can't spend the extra $$ right now -- I'm going broke from DNA testing!

very interesting, Jeff. Maybe as more people get tested we can make some hypotheses about a common ancestor and the routes the different branches took. At the genealogy conference in NYC there was a talk by Huebscher and Isseroff on 21 disparate families with a common ancestor. Wouldn't it be exciting if we could do something like that! I think their breakthrough came when they found a rare mutation and were able to find it in all the families.

LOL! I know what you mean, Elise. I'd rather spend the $$ on DNA testing than buying new clothes Luckily I don't have to dress well for work.

Hi, I apologize for intruding... but maybe all of you could form some sort of a geographic project for all your related peoples that have been mentioned here & get the project discount to encourage more testing...
