  • No Contact with 28/28 Match

I belong to Y Chromosome Haplogroup R2 (M-124) which occurs largely in South Asia (13% Pakistan, 7% India). I fed my haplotype in the Relative Genetics database and found a perfect 28/28 match with someone listed as 'Anonymous'. This match is particularly incredible as R2 shows up minimally on most databases. (Ybase, ySearch, YHRD and SMGF have not thrown up anything closer than 14/28.) I seem to be unable to contact this 4 generations-away cousin as no e-mail ID is listed; nor does the database indicate ways for matches to contact each other. Have I hit a brick wall?

Try contacting Relative Genetics and ask if they'll contact the person on your behalf.

Your match may be to yourself...

The Relative Genetics database site can be somewhat confusing and your match may in fact be to you yourself. If you entered your data more than once, chances are it created an anonymous entry in the database. I am a Project Coordinator on the Relative Genetics site and I have given up trying to track down and/or get RG to remove these extraneous entries.

Rick, thanks. You seem to have solved the mystery.
