  • Term: Neo African

I have seen the term Neo African used on GEDmatch. In modern everyday usage, that term generally refers to immigrants who are from African countries. When it is used in genetic genealogy circles, does it mean the same thing?

I was thinking Neo meant Neolithic and Paleo meant Paleolithic which is to different time periods and it was being used to identify older and newer DNA. But thats just my guess

I believe in admixture calculators Neo African refers to West Africa.

Thank you for your answers. I am enjoying using the various admixture tools on GEDmatch. It gives me something to do while waiting for a new batch of FF cousins to arrive on my list.

I suggest you ask someone at gedmatch. Jargon should always be accompanied by definitions.
