Whats wrong with MTDNA RESULTS
Some of you have mtdna and a few matches others 500+. but someone matches you they are excited so they email all the matches. if they get a responce its either from some one still interested or please dont bother me any more
why?
people dont see that matchs mean anything. yeah we have the ysearch equlivalent but what does that really tell you. Here is what i think is missing.with ydna surnames are thought to be most important. but whats important in mtdna locations . whose keeping them. no one is.whose going to tell you if your fourth generational female is living in the same town as me. when thats what is most likely whats going to get you some positive results.
i am trying to do just this with my projects mtdna results

i have this new database museum and genealogical archive .i am asking my people and their matches if they want to submit their female surnames with locations and times.its just starting but as i figure it thats what will get people excited an email look you and jane share mcdonalds in chelsea ma 1880s.thats when a search would be productive

Value of collecting mtDNA results

Hi Jim,
You make a good point about mtDNA collections. This is where it started and then along comes resolution of YDNA DYS markers and they take over center stage because of Surname Projects following male lines. I have started a Y Surname project and have 2 (counting me) with a third waiting on results.

I would be happy to share my HVS-1 and 2 data into your database placing me in H7 out of the recently identified 15 subclades of H. I paper back to Edith BAUM in 1764 Delaware Co, PA., wife of Elisha GRISSELL, a Scot. Edith appears to be German from her name. Though I still wonder the value since women are more mobile! So time, name and location tells us what? I have shared with Mitomap and Charles KERCHNER, but have not figured out how to search these databases, if possible. OxfordAncestors data is too deep now to be of much value.

Where do I input?

On another subject, how many and which STRs and what mtDNA data does one get for $99 from the National Geographic study by Spencer WELLS? The site is glaringly quiet about this information and I would rather get the information from those following this site.

The $15 upload charge if one has FTDNA results is questionable. Since we have spent the money for the analysis results, one would think that volunteering the information would be satisfactory after pre-qualifying FTDNA as a viable testing organization!

GaryJulian: I recommend going through the Genographic project as I've done.

1. The cost is less than the basic mtDNA and yDNA tests directly from ftdna, currently $99 for Genographic vs. $159 y and $129 mt from ftdna.

2. If you go through Genographic, you won't have to pay a charge to then participate in Genographic as you do if you go through ftdna.

3. A male can choose either mtDNA or yDNA test be done through Genographic. The _trick_ is to mark your sample as Female or Male to choose the test to be done. I've done this. It works. [The sample submission form asks _your_ gender... you can just ignore this supidity on their part.... guess they thought it'd be too confusing for the public to realize males have both mt and y dna... but they just _made_ things confusing.]

4. Once you get your genographic results, you'll get a link to join ftdna at no charge -- it's quick and easy and works.

5. Now in ftdna, you can choose further tests at the same or reduced prices such as the refinement and additional marker ones, and a y test (if you had mt done); and a mt (if you had the y done). I've also just done this requesting a y when genographic did a mt.

Note: you may need to send an email to ftdna asking they unlock further tests if you had mt done since genographic (as per 3 above) reports you as a female. ftdna did this for me no problem -- great customer service!

Or, you could send two samples to genographic (one for mt and one for y) and link to ftdna through each result.

To summarize what I did: ordered a sample kit from genographic; sent my sample in marking myself as Female (I'm male) to get the mt test done; got the results and clicked on the link to ftdna and joined; asked ftdna to unlock the male tests (since I was reported as a female); ordered the y 12 marker test through ftdna and the mt refine on the sample they have though genographic; am awaiting results of those tests.

there is a pa project locational they should except mtdna as a second project . every locational project should like the breine clan, reviers,greek, bahama,Acadia-Métis Mothers[mtdna], Anusim,Azores Is. Portugal Project ,Core Melungeon,cuba,czech,DonegalBay & Fermana ,French Canadian Heri ,Galicia Spain DNA ,Guanches-Canary Isle,Hoopers isle,hebrew,
Iranian persian,Johnson Co. Illinois[mtdna] and the rest

If there isnt one just make one like Wash st. and do the women too.
i need more matches lol
