  • Alleles hierarchy and color coded results

On the FTDNA Family Surname DNA Projects pages, DNA Test Results (Alleles) for Project Members are posted in a particular order.

The order is not alphanumeric; so what does the order mean and why are some displayed black and others red?

More to the point, are alleles and markers the same thing and are some more important than others in establishing kinship?

    Any reply will be appreciated.

Alleles and markers are the same thing and the ones in red are faster mutating. The mutations are what allow for matching the "branches" in our trees.

      Thanks for the reply, but...

...are the first 12 markers more general than the next 13 and so on to 37 or do they all have the same "value"?
