"Lumbar disc disease is the drying of the spongy interior matrix of an intervertebral disc in the spine. Many physicians and patients use the term lumbar disc disease to encompass several different causes of back pain or sciatica. A study of Asian patients with lumbar disc disease showed that a mutation in the CILP gene increases the risk of back pain."

Possibly another interesting result for me. 6 years ago I fractured my spine in 4 places (2 in the lumbar region), testing led to the diagnosis of severe osteoporosis, since then I have followed and added to my daily physical exercise regime but the one pain I have not been able to get rid off is in the lumbar region.
