  • Husband and Wife mtDNA or Y chrom matches?

Has anyone heard of a husband and wife who never knew they were related, tested and discovered they had a common maternal line?

Or how about a husband matching the father or brother of the wife?

    I'm curious.

    Husband and Wife Matches

My husband and I were surprised after our autosomal tests to discover that we share a common ancestor about 6.4 generations back. We have about 3 surname matches but have not yet figured out the common ancestor - likely back in England.

My wife and daughter in law have the same mtdna haplogroup, H3c, with the same extra mutations, both with Quebec roots. My son's mtdna is V1, his mother died when he was 1 and he has been raised since he was 4 by his H3c step mom.

No, but it could easily happen with adoptees. At one time I dated a girl and 40 years later found out that she was my cousin. I was adopted at birth and did not know my bio family until I was 59 years old.
