i got my uncles Y results back. so far he has 5 twelve marker matches with a genetic distance of 1 and one exact 12 maker match. there are no 25 marker matches and his 37 marker test did not come back yet (but obviously there won't be any matches). with the family finder test (which my mother took who is my uncles sister) there are only 5 'matches' and they are all 5th cousin "remote". they are of Ukrainian nationality... this is pretty disappointing. my father who is polish has 120 twelve marker matches and 43twelve marker matches with a genetic distance of one. he also has one 25 marker match with a genetic distance of 2. he has 17 matches in family finder and they are all 4th and 5th cousin "remote" except for one who is a predicted 4th cousin. i emailed the predicted 4th cousin and have gotten no response. maybe with the current sale i'll get some more matches at some level. both haplogroup predictions of my father and maternal uncle are R1a1a. there are no matches of surnames. are non jewish eastern europeans very unrepresented on FTDNA?

I would wait for all the results to come in. You are perhaps jumping the gun as to all the results as you say the 37 marker results from your uncle have not come back yet. I would not think that non-Jewish, eastern Europeans are under represented here and would not presume that matching people of Jewish heritage, though, unexpected as to what one knows of family religious affiliations, means that one does not have a Jewish heritage. My brother and our confirmed 6th cousin were matches (R1a1a) at ancestry.com We both transferred to here. My brother and our cousin were a 1 marker difference on the 12 markers, not a match at all on the 25 markers, and a 3 marker difference on the 37 marker test (just like our results at ancestry). We always thought our Parlett family was Brittish but it looks like it matches the Polish group. We can only trace back to 1692 in Prince Georges County, Maryland.

thanks... i just assume with no matches at 25 markers that there would not be any at 37 markers. both of my parents families come from around the same area (Poland, Ukraine, Galicia region) and my dad had a lot more matches (he is polish) then my mom and her brother (who are ukrainian). hopefully we'll get some more matches with the holiday sale!

Hello: I agree with the comments already made. But I do want to suggest that you post your results now (and later when upgraded) in as many places as you can (you may have done this). It gives you the best opportunity to find a match as you increase your searchable data. (Places like Y-Search, mitosearch, Ancestry, Genetree, Gedmatch and so on. Some may only apply to Y or mtDNA or FF results, or all of them, but you know what I mean !).

When I saw the area of Poland etc, it reminded me that by having manually entered my results elsewhere, I had achieved several matches not showing up at FTDNA by my posting at Ancestry. I am a firm FTDNA 'supporter' but the fact remains that others do test elsewhere. Just today, I received a contact message from an exact match mtDNA HVR1+2 (sure, it might be 750 years back) but you may find this particular line of the message interesting : As far as I was ever told the family lived in a town called Pankna in Galicia, Austria or now Poland. If Pankna Galicia is in your area of interest, send me a PM, and I'll point you towards the contact.

So, good luck with your searches. Get your tests done during the FTDNA sale if you can. Then expand your searchable database, by spreading the data around.

thanks! i put my father's and uncle's y dna into Ysearch but haven't attempted any of the other search engines yet. i am still learning about dna and what my results actually mean, etc... i am going to do the others though! yes, Galicia is a place where my family lines come from...

                Not So Obvious To Me

You could have a 37 marker match who has elected to not see 12 or 25 marker matches. You could have a match with a genetic distance that would not show up at 12 or 25 markers, but would show up at 37 markers.
