  • When does FTDNA notify you?

I'm just curious when FTDNA usually notifies someone they've received their kit. I sent two back, last Tuesday. Someone told me they do them all on Wednesday, so I am expecting something today. As an impatient person (I'm doing my best, lol) the fact that's it's almost noon and I haven't heard anything is starting to slowly kill me. I am just hoping someone can give me an estimated timeframe so then I won't keep checking every 2 minutes. Like, is it usually in the afternoon? Or do they batch them on Wednesday & send out the notifications on Thursday?

I can't give you an exact time, but batching usually happens late on Wednesdays. Hang in there!

Usually it's around close of business, Houston time. Not necessarily right at 5pm, but typically within a few hours after.

alright...thanks all! I'll have to try to contain myself till then 5pm Houston time...roughly 6ish ET....

It doesn't help that I've had nightmares twice this week that my results got lost in the mail & when I got new kits, my dad & grandfather (maternal) refused to do them a second time, lol.

9:01pm, received confirmation they received 1 (1?!?!?!) of my kits; looks like it'll be a while till i receive any results though...hoping beyond hope they got my second one too and just for whatever reason the email didn't get to me yet. Thanks again everyone for keeping me sane earlier

I sent mine back a week ago Tuesday, and Wednesday came and went and I got no confirmation they received it.

I am worried because my test was old. So old that 12 markers was the norm. The envelope had the pre addressed sticker on it, but now I am worried it was an old address?!

              Should I do something?

I don't know about your situation, but I'd contact FTDNA if I were you.

As to my situation, I did receive notice that my one kit made it to FTDNA (sent Tuesday July 5th, notified Weds July 13th) however my other kit, sent at the same time from the same post office has still not made it to them in Texas. After talking to others, it seems I am not alone in my kit taking a long time to reach its destination. I'm still holding out some hope it shows up, but part of me would just like FTDNA to send out my replacement kit now so I can send it back ASAP.

I send mine using USPS Priority Mail with delivery confirmation. It costs a little more, but no problems yet, thankfully.

When I sent mine in. I called about once a week. 6 weeks went by and they said they had not even received it. Talked to the project co - ordinator and discovered that I had actually sent it to the wrong place. I think there is a lab in Arizona , but also a college in texas. Or vice versa. Either way, I mailed it and put down the address I seen on the paperwork. They had to send me another kit and Had to do it again. I was almost ready to mail the second kit to the correct address when I get a phone call and they tell me now they have recieved my first kit. 2 months after I mailed it in. I guess someone from the college decided to finally mail it over to where it was supposed to be. I don't know.

It might not be an old address, but if you only paid what it told you for postage (if you didn't take it to the post office and have them weigh it) it might not have enough postage. Postage went up recently, but if yours is that old it's probably very outdated.

FTDNA moved to a new office a couple years ago (though I don't know where they were located when you first ordered the kit!), so you more than likely sent it to an old address. They certainly had the post office forwarding mail from the previous office, but as with any forwarded mail, it may take longer for it to get to the correct destination.

Linds' comment about postage is an important consideration too.

Bottom line - call FTDNA, tell them what happened, and they can surely tell you what normally happens in cases like this. I'm sure you're not the first to send in a very old kit

Okay, I'll ask their advice on how to proceed. Thanks everybody!

That's what I should have done....I even remember thinking, "if the guy asks abt tracking i should get it", but he didn't and I ignored the fact that I didn't have it. I've never had a problem with USPS losing a piece of mail (except 1 postcard I sent once from Australia, but who knows where that got lost), so I admit I was not really worried about it reaching it's destination. Oh how foolish I was....
