    Ed,

I responded on a new thread since your question was not related to the original post in this one. See:

  • Summary: Experts on Informed Consent for Genetic Research.

This came in on my "Help a Reporter Out" and thought I'd like someone from this group to represent..

Summary: Experts on Informed Consent for Genetic Research.

Name: Jacqueline Klosek (Panel at Major International Legal Conference)

    Category: General

    Email: [email protected]

Media Outlet: Panel at Major International Legal Conference

    Deadline: 07:00 PM EST - 7 March

    Query:

For a panel at a major legal conference in Dublin on October 11,
I am seeking experts on informed consent for genetic research.
In light of recent controversies (including the settlement
involving the Havasupai tribe in Arizona and the lawsuits
involving newborn blood spot testing), the program will explore
and analyze the sufficiency of current methods for obtaining
informed consent from individuals for genetic research and the
legality of conducting subsequent, unrelated research on genetic
materials collected for a particular purpose. I have one
academic confirmed, but am interested in hearing from other
academics, as well as someone from an NGO who can speak to the
human rights/privacy concerns of this kind of research as well as
someone from industry who can speak to the need and value of this
kind of research. Unfortunately, the conference does not pay any
travel expenses. I need to confirm my final panel by March 20,
2011 so I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Working...
