Comparing your results with your matches

I got a match here at FTDNA and found out its not like Ancestry where they post the results of the people you match up with so you can compare. Does anyone know why FTDNA doesn't do the same?

If you're talking about mtDNA or YDNA, the only ways to see the actual results is to find them on mitosearch or ysearch, or find them in a FTDNA project. The actual markers/CRS differences would be posted.

I don't know why the comparable results are not posted with your matches.

I found my FTDNA Y match at Y-search where they only posted enough markers to get people interest. It worked and I saw that they had tested here so I did a up grand to 67 markers and I found a match. Groups are no good if you don't share the same last name unless you have a lineage or sponsor someone to take a test. I don't have a lineage and I'm hoping to find someone to sponsor. Definitely something they should fix. I have been telling people to test here but if you can't compare your results with your matches than I might have to rethink that.

If you match the person and they want you to see their results you should be able to see their name and e-mail address listed on your Y-DNA matches on your myFTDNA website. If they aren't there they have limited their compare. This same limit would probably keep you from seeing their results if FTDNA did have the option you are talking about. If you have their surname look them up in their surname project if it has a website.

Before you start sending people to Ancestry.com for their DNA testing think about all of the advantages you have at FTDNA. Have you ever tried to talk to the top person at Ancestry.com?

I have there name and e-mail and have made contact with them when I first came a cross them at Y-search. They gave me a lot of information about their early family who they were and where. Than I guess they figured there was no need to exchange anymore e-mails and stopped replying. Filling lucky I got what I got from them I left it at that.

Surname is different than mine and I have tried to join a couple of groups with that surname but was turned down because I could not proved a lineage or have not sponsored anyone's test. I did sponsor someone awhile back but have not mentioned it and they where not a match. Plan to sponsor again but have to find someone that's has a chance of being a match if I do I will try to join again. I know I probably could use the other name but have forgotten who they are. DOH! But at this point being in a group is not that important to me.

Had no plans to send anyone anywhere I figured I tell them what I like about this one and that one and let them decide. I have been pointing people to this site for years but its seem less and less user friendly as I finely start to look a round more. Never needed to talk to the top person at either site. If they like my ideas they are more than welcome to use them and both might want to read the forum to see whats going on. There was a time when people were more interested in the forum now it seems that the interest is become less. The names you see posting every day now appear once and awhile.

it's true that, absent their Kit No., you can't pick them out even if they have joined a surname project (unless you happen to know from your earlier correspondance who/where there earliest known ancestor lived, assuming they have given you the same information that they have in their FTDNA profile) which is too bad, but it's the same on ysearch as well.

True Y-search is only as good as the information posted there. My Y-search match had posted 55 or so markers and you would think that would be enough when I had 46 markers tested at one site and 37 at another. But they had it so you would get a tease and could only compare 25 of the 55 or so markers. I ended up with 20 out of 25 and if it was not for my other matches having a better match to him I wouldn't have bothered with the up grand to 67 where he was shown to be a match to me. He was not shown as a match at 12, 25, or 37.
