  • What is difference between autosomalSNP and autosmalSTR?

    Hello,

What is difference between autosomalSNP and autosmalSTR ?

I see Population Finder uses autosomalSNP, however another testing company
    I tested with uses autosomalSTR.

    Thank you

An SNP is a Single Nucleotide Polymorphism. It refers to one single location on your DNA having several different (usually 2) possible bases at that location.

An STR is a Short Tandem Repeat and refers to a sequence that is repeated multiple times. It is therefore talking about multiple bases being repeated such as AGTAGTAGTAGT. That sequence would be a 3-base sequence repeated 4 times. This is just an example.

You probably just want to know which company to use.. Use the SNP testing one for relative/ancestry matching, population etc., it is the most modern method used.
