Anyone else have the haplotype I1? Sub-type M253? What can y'all tell me about it?

Not I1 myself, our Gray family is I2a3, but....

First thing you should probably do is join the I1 project HERE.

You can get quite a bit of info at DNA forums as well.

Rootsweb also hosts a mailing list for Haplogroup I. Great info.
