  • I am curious

Why the mtDNA FGS has higher backlog when compared to tests like the Y-DNA Deep Clade or the Family Finder?

Granted my Y-DNA was a bit slow because of sample issues, but Family Finder which tested over half a million SNP's was done in the blink of an eye, yet I read comments about the mtDNA FGS taking up to 5 months to complete. (I just ordered my FGS test and curiosity was sparked by the disclaimer on the order screen about the length of time the test takes)

Just curious if it's something in how the mtDNA is tested or is it directly related to more customers wanting mtDNA testing?

I think it is both. The test is very involved and there are (or at least there were) double the number of expected participants.

Looks like I'm in for the long haul here. Still, it's worth it considering the resolution of this mtDNA test.
