That being said, if a 12 marker test doesn't tell you much, why not just offer tests starting at 25 markers or the HVR2 for mtdna instead of the basic?
A lot of people seen this on TV and sent for the testing not knowing how it works. The Y was hard enough to learn something of it for me but this MT is out there. I understand the waste of money comments.
The fundamentals of this is very hard to get a hold onto. Also some calling people trolls and the web master letting it stay is not good either, know what I mean.

Our 1 to 12 Y-DNA matched myself and my cousin.
      We could of stopped there.
If you are related, you will match.

I have been doing genetic genealogy for 8 years and I couldn't be happier with Family Tree DNA. They provide a lot of educational information on their website and list many good books you can read to gain additional information.

The fundamentals are VERY simple. If you test Y-DNA in the 37 to 67 marker range and you match someone else there is a good chance that you share a relative. If you don't match you probably don't

I see a lot of information on TV. Much of it reported as news. That doesn't make me believe it. Anyone - EVERYONE - should investigate before they buy. If they don't understand what they are buying they shouldn't.

Not Just Lamba DNA Any More!!!

In 1982, we were happy to sequence DNA with lambda DNA . . . applyng the technolgy just involved a bunch of college students talking about who is going to be your lab partner and the old teacher wondering about the class grouping along with the lab reports of course . . . actually, it did prepare me for graduate school!!! I guess they never put their hands inside of cow to get a sample before . . . ???

No, but reading a the information they provide on their website and reading a few books sure did help.

Like I said it was not easy as you indicate. People have not a clue as to what is involved or how much time is really needed. They can load up the home page with all kinds of disclaimers and if the people do not understand it , they will not read it. No different than a 16 page sales contract people just skimm over them and sign. You choose to read as I have started doing but because of work loads increasing I have very little time to do the research needed for this field that I Never wanted to know a thing about.
Y is easier now for me, the MT NOT, and may never.
