Sounds like the deep clade test (paid for test).

FTDNA will predict your haplogroup by looking at your 12 marker STR results. If they can't predict one with certainly they will run a backbone test on their own without you needing to intervene.

When they took your order they first verified their prediction with M253 and now they will check the following SNPs to see which "tested" haplogroup you are in:

    I1a M21
    I1b M227
    I1b* -
    I1b1 M72
    I1c P259
    I1d L22
    I1d* -
    I1d1 P109

So you are half way to an answer.

Just this morning after posting my query, this finally appeared:

    I* M253+ (tested positive); tests in progress: M21, M227, M72, P259, L22, & P109

I see where the L22 is included. I've never seen anything about a "backbone test". But I did order the Deep Clade - due 6-21-2010.

    Krootie,

Can you verify if you took the backbone test [usually offered for free] or the Deep Clade I, which costs money.

What are all of the results at the bottom of your "Haplotree" page diagram?

You should see something along the order of this:

    Haplogroup Info
    Your Haplogroup I1
    Tests
    L211- L22- M161- M170+ M21- M223- M227- M253+ M258+ M26- M307+ M72- P109- P19+ P259- P30+ P37.2- P38+

Does your Haplotree still say testing in progress?

Are you thinking of something else?

Ala carte L22 has not been offered as a stand alone for quite some time, but I see it is on the ala carte menu now. What changed?

I'm certain that L22 is still included in the Deep Clade I.

    Can you verify that?

L22 is on their "haplotree" so that means it is supposed to officially be in the Deep Clade I. I remember when it was not, but is should be now.
Thanks for the correction. That appears to be the case, though the test description doesn't actually list L22.
When results are posted to the I1 Project administrators pages, the L22 are preceded by the label "Deep Clade Extended C", so I guess that is part of the Deep Clade, not an additional order? I see orders placed for Deep Clade Extended C, as well as just Deep Clade.

I think the L22 listed on the ala carte menu is for tests downstream of L22; L258 in this case.

Thanks for the input. I'll wait for the results to the "Deep Clade" and see if the group still requests more testing.

(As for incomplete posting - I too had to re-edit my post four times. Previewed showed the entire post. I find regular hiccups using Google Chrome or SRWare Iron browsers, but I refuse to use IE.)

Unless, of course, Krootie means the "assurance" / backbone test that only checks for haplogroup I, but Krootie said "Deep Clade".

I am not sure why the forum is not posting the complete message. I will try again without the quote.

The Deep Clade test will just confirm that you are I1. (not very useful)

You need L22 or DYS462 test and/or more markers. If you list your kit number, I will give you a most specific recommendation.

    Krootie,

I'm not sure what went wrong with the post of the fellow that was going to answer you, but if you've already got the Deep Clade I on order - I suggest just waiting until your results are final.

They will not all come at once - and you won't get any notification until all of the rounds of SNPs are done testing.

You can still take an occasional look at your "My Haplotree" page and look at the bottom to see if they list any SNPs + or - that have been tested, in the mean time, it will say something on the order of "Test currently in progress".

    Further tests?

Currently, my yDNA Haplogroup I: Subclade I1 project list me as “Unclassified (need L22 or DYS462 test and/or more markers).

But I’m awaiting the results of the Deep Clade test. Will this test suffice – or should I order under the Advanced Tests?
