  • Ancestral Origins

When looking at my yDNA under the Ancestral Origins section, it is indicated that I have perfect matches to someone tested in Germany on 12, 25, and 37 markers. I have a perfect match to someone tested in Ireland on 12 and 25 markers. Finally, I have 6 perfect matches to people tested in England on 12 markers. I am having a hard time on finding the kit #'s for these people and being able to try making contact. Can anyone help?

You will only find contact information in the "YDNA-Matches" section but not the "YDNA-Ancestral Origins" section.. Some matches in the Ancestral Origins section are not public. Try ysearch.org also and your matches may be there. Also the countries listed are based on what had been entered as farthest known relative and not where your matches are living today.. unless that's as far back as they knew to enter.

Email FTDNA and ask them to contact your exact 37-marker match. They can give the man your email address (and whatever other contact info you want him to have) and ask him to contact you. Then it's up to him. There are no guarantees, but it's better to try than to just let it go.

I had an exact 25-marker match in Ancestral Origins with a man who listed England as his place of ancestral origin. He did not show up on my Y-DNA Matches page. I did what I suggested to you above. The man contacted me. Now I know who he is, the fact that he was born in Worcester, England, and we are now a 65/67 match.

So, give it a try, and I wish you the best of success!

I'll have to echo Stevo's remarks.

This method proved very successful for me as well.
