  • 2 Y haplogroups only 4 steps away

    Hello,
I am fairly new. I may have missed something. But, while checking my Haplotree matches. I have found other Haplogroup subclades within a 4 step mutation, from me. I have also, found a different Haplogroup, altogether, within a 4 step mutation. I am tested I2B1. I am only a 4 step mutation, from one Haplogroup G. How can that instance, occur.

If you are talking about 12 markers, this is certainly possible. 12 markers aren't that many, so even a distance of 2 can mean a different haplogroup altogether. If you have more markers, this won't happen.

It often helps if you put your marker results on Ybase and let us know your Ybase ID.

Re my above: I need more sleep!

I meant to say Ysearch, not Ybase. Here's the link:

I do have y-search. My y-search id is pjzzr. I did all 67 markers and confirmed my I2B1 results. It is possible, the other party has fewer markers. I just assumed. Markers, that seperate Haplogroups, would negate such matches.
