Ancestry by dna is back!

Maybe I ought to take this Ancestry by DNA test. I'm Irish back to 'Strongbow' and probably Norman before that.

Let them find Native American in me then.

Was he adopted? Was one of his parents adopted? He did take the test in the first place, probably had some mystery in his family. Before his result was read he said he thought he may have some "Indian" and/or "Mexican". If he was adopted, it wouldn't be the first time that a baby of Native American ancestry was passed off as Jewish in order to have a better life (better education, career opportunities). If his family is his biological family and have been in Brooklyn for centuries, it is possible that the admixture has been in his family for generations. The oldest synagogue in the USA is in Brookyn (circa 1600s. I used to pass by it on the bus). And there were lots of Indians in Brooklyn at the same time (Canarsie, etc).

Whatever way it turns out, there's an episode or two of material for Curb Your Enthusiasm handed to him on a plate.

I read online that George Lopez also had Latina actress Jessica Alba on his show (I don't get HBO) and her AncestryByDna is 87% European and 13% Indigenous American (the category has been rephrased). She expected a much higher Native American score.

I would guess that her Spanish ancestors had a lot of Arabian deep ancestry. Maybe Mesopotamian and Levantine too.

Yes, that's what I meant. Well I only saw a small part, just containing the interview, not the whole video. I saw that video clip at DNA Forums and other similar sites. People were commenting about it. I did not know who Larry David was but, apparently, he's a tv producer or actor or comedian or something like that. I don't watch much tv, so I was not familiar with him either. I understand he is Jewish, his ancestors coming from Eastern Europe. This I also read, because, like you, this was the first time I'd seen him. There is no way he could be 37% NA! He might have some smaller, similar admixture, but certainly not 37%! This information really took him by surprise. So I think AncestrybyDNA has to improve its methods or accuracy.

Yes, this whole business is quite troubling. The company and test fell out of favor for a reason. When Pakistanis started showing up with 30+% Native American and Greeks 10% NA, many of us gave up on seeing this test as having any predictive validity.

It is possible to pick 92 ancestral informative markers from the deCODEme or 23andMe array and make much better estimates of admixture (or re 23andMe simply look at "Ancestry Painting" - it is not far off - or send the whole set to Dr. McD and he will provide valid percentages) - and for simple Continental assignment, a mere 45 well chosen SNPs will do nicely. However if people really "want" to be a Native American, this retread of a test can feed into that desire.

Compare Larry David to someone who is known to be Native American (such as Wilma Mankiller) I believe it.

Yes, it is back, but as inacurate as ever, judging from the results for Larry David, as announced on the George Lopez show. According to clip I have seen, LD came out as thirty-something % Native American. Really hard to believe!

Oh WOW! That is great news!

I just looked at the link. Their new parent company is the same one that does all of the paternity tests for the Maury tv show. I had mentioned them in another thread about paternity tests. Great to see them back.
