  • timeframe on updating markers

I ordered the yDNA67 test and I just received my 48-60 and 61-67 markers yesterday so my question is how often does this get updated as most of the rest of the markers are still pending? Do results get posted once a week or daily? Sorry, I'm new to the forum but would appreciate advice.

You should receive an email from FTDNA each time a panel of STR marker results is posted.

I don't think there is any particular frequency; they just seem to be posted as the results are received from the lab.

However, it does seem from recent experience that panel 38-47 is posted last. I had my 67 marker update done some time ago, and even then the 38-47 panel result was posted long after the other panels.

I never received any email and I found the results by logging in. I checked both my email addresses in my contact information and they are correct. Hopefully, there is not a problem there. I guess the notifications go out a day or so after results are posted. I'll keep checking my email.

Reportedly, FTDNA emails can be erratic, but they did notify me of all of my STR panels being posted.

On the other hand, I have never been emailed by them about my SNP test results (from deep clade testing), but I gather SNPs are done at a different lab so that may be the reason.

Individual panels are posted to the MyFTDNA accounts as they are completed by the lab, but emails aren't sent out for each panel. A notification email will be sent out when the entire 38-67 order is complete.

              gtc,
              FTDNA send emails for panels
              1-12
              13-25
              26-37
              38-67.
They dont send an email for 48-60 and 61-67 until the entire 38-67 panel has been completed.
jbh wont receive a email until the 38-47 section has been completed.

On that point, at one stage I didn't get any emails from FTDNA -- they just went silent.

I eventually tracked that problem to my email address being corrupted in the contact details. There was an odd looking character in the middle of it. I don't know when that corruption happened as I have had no reason to update my personal details since I first registered as an FTDNA customer.

You received notification emails for the 1-12, 13-25 and 26-37 panels because those "can" each be separate orders... ie, you can upgrade from one level to the next. So FTDNA has the system set up to notify upon completion of each of those panels, even for customers who didn't order the panels separately.

However, for the 38-67 upgrade, you can't separately order 38-47, 48-60 and 61-67. So FTDNA has the system set up to notify only on completion of the entire 38-67 order.

Your information about FTDNA's internals make me suspect you are an employee. Yes?

No, I'm not an employee. I've been a customer for nearly 5 years and I'm a project administrator. I make it a point to learn FTDNA's processes and as much as I can about genetic genealogy to help myself, my project members, and other people on the various forums.
