Being that R1b is such a popular haplogroup I was expect to match far more people, at least at such broad levels as 12-25. So I am just wondering if this is typical.
Also, when looking at haplotype records, always bear in mind that the area of origin stated against the various haplotype records could be sheer guesses in the majority of cases, based on family rumors, etc.
The usual advice when it comes to this stuff is to join one of the project groups, especially a surname project if one exists for yours. Also, if you proceed to deep clade testing to further qualify your R1b subclades, then you may be eligible to join one of the R1b special interest project groups, and my experience is that the leaders of those projects are right up with the latest science of SNPs and will advise you on how to proceed with further testing, etc.
