  • Romani Haplogroups.

I would appreciate any feedback regarding Romani classifications.
I was given an I1 haplogroup M253 a number of years ago now...confirming my Anglo-Celtic heritage(so i thought) but have recently recieved information that my Fathers' Father was a full blooded Rom.....does this seem feasible....would a more extensive marker test give more of an indication of a Romani connection??

Probably not, because the type is European. You might consult history books for the country concerned to get an idea of how and when your European paternal line became incorporated into the Roma. See http://dienekes.blogspot.com/2008/01...n-gypsies.html

Thanks for the reply Jim......The Romani population of England has been established here now for centuries....whilst i'm aware that intermarriage would have been a common feature during that time,i would expect my haplogroup to have a South Asian marker such as H....as opposed to a Northern European one.
I shall conduct more research on the matter....perhaps i was fed some incorrect information...or perhaps i need to fine tune my understanding of dna....cheers.
